Impromptu Phototography Class

I love taking pictures.  Not just fun, "I was in London, look you can see me in the picture with Big Ben!" photos.  Not just on vacation, "look what we saw!" pictures (though that would explain the 38 pictures of cranes on my computer).  I like photos that work with the capabilities of the camera to show something new.  They help us focus in on a detail, or an emotion, or show us the "big picture."  They're like art that you can do well without having to be good at drawing.

I love this kind of photo, yet I haven't taken many myself.  They seemed out of my reach.  I figured I should get a better camera, or take a photography class.  However, maybe all I need is some practice.  So, I gave myself a spontaneous photography project: an apartment portrait.  It didn't go quite as planned; halfway through I was enjoying the close-ups so much that I started taking pictures that would be good for a treasure hunt.  You know, like they do for cities?  They ask, "Do you know where these pictures were taken?" and you have to identify their locations from photos that show little details like door handles.

I ended up with a few that I enjoyed enough to share:

Baby Basil

Kitchen Basics

Dot Painting, viewed from below.

Spice Rack (or Spice Lazy Susan, if you prefer)

  1. These are really fun pictures! I love what you've done with the materials you have. I know a lot of people are using Photoshop to help their pictures look better, but I love using the tools I have in the camera and the materials available in the room.

Now all I need to do is replace my camera!
